Fifteen-year-old Carlo Acutis died within a week of being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, offering his suffering for the salvation of souls.
Acutis fell into a coma and was rushed to the intensive care unit where he underwent a treatment to cleanse his blood. He died on October 12, 2006, and was buried in Assisi at his request because of his love for St. Francis.
His cause for canonization began in 2013. The Medical Council of the Congregation for Saints Causes has expressed a positive opinion on an alleged miracle attributed to the young boy.
